Christmas Markt of the Medieval Kind!

If you’re living  or visiting in Germany around the Christmas season, one of the most memorable experiences for anyone in Germany is savoring the winter holiday season at one of the country’s numerous Christmas markets.  This year we decided to take in a different type of market near our home that is unique for its medieval setting. As we strolled through the Christmas market within the walls of the castle, we saw numerous vendors dressed in medieval costumes.  In addition to the normal Christmas markets goods on sale, there was a good sampling of medieval vendors selling and/or demonstrating goods from that era.  We even saw an occasional minstrel playing a flute.  The weather was cold and foggy adding an additional setting that further enhanced the atmosphere of this market. Lichtenberg Castel is located a few miles from the town of Kusel in the state of Rheinland Pflaz, Germany.  The castle sits on the long crest of a hill that overlooks the surrounding valley offering great views over the local countryside.  Check out the pictures below and let us know what you think!
