Travel Destination: Ireland!

Grease is the word? No GREEN is the word for this month’s travel destination. Have you ever wondered why green is associated with Ireland? There are actually several reasons.

·       Ireland is known as the Emerald Isle for its hills and valleys of multiple shades of green. The rainy and drizzly weather keeps the vegetation growing and the landscape green in the rural areas.

·       The green shamrock is one of the most famous symbols of the country of Ireland. It is said that St. Patrick used the shamrock to explain Christianity.

·       The green in the Irish flag represents the traditional Gaelic of Ireland or it is said to represent the Catholic sector of the country.

·       Green was also the color worn by sympathizers of the Irish cause in the late 1700’s.

And the best day to celebrate the color green is on St. Patrick’s Day! What a great time to explore the traditions, foods, and people of the country of Ireland. Especially with a little classroom mischief from the leprechauns! So think green and enjoy a little “Luck of the Irish” this month.
